Legislation authorizes more than $100 billion for science and technology initiatives, including semiconductor research
WASHINGTON—May 13, 2021—The Semiconductors in America Coalition (SIAC), a cross-sector alliance of semiconductor companies and major downstream users of semiconductors, today released the following statement regarding the Senate Commerce Committee’s strong bipartisan approval of the Endless Frontier Act (S.1260). The bipartisan legislation, introduced last month by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.) and approved by a committee vote of 24-4, aims to strengthen America’s global competitiveness and technology leadership by authorizing more than $100 billion for science and technology initiatives, including semiconductor research.
“The Endless Frontier Act provides an ambitious and bipartisan roadmap for strengthening America’s global competitiveness and leadership in essential technologies, including semiconductors. Sen. Schumer and Sen. Young deserve credit for their vision and leadership in advancing this landmark legislation. As the bill moves to the Senate floor, we urge congressional leaders to include needed funding for the semiconductor manufacturing incentives and research initiatives in the CHIPS for America Act. An investment in domestic chip production and innovation is an investment in America’s long-term economic strength, national security, and technology leadership.”
