WASHINGTON—June 8, 2021—The Semiconductors in America Coalition (SIAC), a cross-sector alliance of semiconductor companies and major downstream users of semiconductors, today released the following statement commending Senate passage of funding for domestic chip technology in the United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), legislation (S.1260) that seeks to strengthen America’s global competitiveness by advancing U.S. leadership in science and technology. The bill, introduced by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Todd Young (R-Ind.), includes $52 billion in federal funding for the domestic semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing provisions in the CHIPS for America Act.
“We applaud bipartisan Senate approval of funding in USICA for domestic semiconductor manufacturing, research, and design, which is needed to strengthen America’s economy, national security, global competitiveness, and technology leadership. Federal investments in semiconductor technology will help ensure more of the chips America needs are produced on U.S. soil and accessible to the many critical sectors of the U.S. economy that depend on them, benefiting American workers, businesses, and consumers. We commend Sens. Schumer, Cornyn, Warner, Young, Kelly, Cotton, and others in the Senate for championing these critical investments.
